SAVANNAH, Ga. () – The 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard, welcomed another C-130J Super Hercules aircraft to Savannah Air National Guard Base on Tuesday.

It’s the third of its expected eight-aircraft fleet.

“It means that we are closer to being mission ready and ready to go defend our nation,” said 165th Airlift Wing Commander Sheldon Wilson.

The Super Hercules, produced in Georgia, is used to transport troops and equipment into hostile areas, among other tactical missions.

It can reach up to 417 miles per hour in speed at 22,000 feet.

“This is of significant importance to the city of Savannah,” Wilson said. “We appreciate our community, they support our military personnel, and we look to be part of the future for years and decades to come.”

The 165th Airlift Wing is hoping to complete the fleet by September.
