The Jets have interviewed 13 candidates for their vacant general manager post and nine for their opening at head coach, with more to come.
A new candidate for the head coaching position has surfaced this week. The NFL Network revealed that the Commanders have shown interest in interviewing their defensive coordinator, Joe Whitt Jr.
For the 46-year-old Whitt, who’s in his first year with Washington, this will be his first interview for a head coach job.

Interestingly, the Jets on Jan. 11 interviewed Washington assistant general manager Lance Newmark for the team’s vacant general manager position.
However, due to Washington’s upcoming game against the Lions in the NFC divisional playoff round, Whitt’s interview will have to wait until after the playoffs, once the Commanders are no longer in contention.
Before joining Washington, Whitt collaborated with head coach Dan Quinn for three years in Dallas, serving as the pass game coordinator and secondary coach for the Cowboys. Their working relationship extends back to their time together in Dallas.
Washington ranked 13th in total defense (allowing 327.9 yards per game) and 18th in opponent scoring (23.0 points).
