ATLANTA (WJBF) – Several state leaders highlighted Georgia’s top legislative priorities at the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s annual Eggs and Issues breakfast in Atlanta on Tuesday.

State leaders said that Georgia needs to double down on transportation and infrastructure investments.

Governor Brian Kemp said with a $1.5 billion dollar investment, it will speed up 20 transportation projects across the state.

Another goal is to tackle tort reform to prevent lawsuits which Kemp said drives up insurance costs.

With new jobs, Kemp said it means making housing more affordable and creating the next generation of skilled workers which means prioritizing higher education.

“We are not only focused on developing our workforce but through our rural housing workforce initiative, we also continue to with our local partners across the state and efforts to ensure this growing workforce can live in the community where our industries are creating these good paying jobs,” said Kemp.

Kemp wants to invest $530 million dollars in logistics and freight and $250 million dollars to support wastewater projects.

He is expected to outline his full budget priorities on Thursday in his annual State of the State Address to lawmakers at the capitol.
