Staff report

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Brian Michael Hendrickson, 37, was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with fleeing and reckless driving after allegedly weaving through traffic on State Road 20 and U.S. Hwy 301 at high speed in an effort to elude a deputy.

At about 6:54 a.m. on January 13, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy saw a Subaru Crosstrek driving over 70 mph on SR 20 near SE 65th Lane. The deputy activated lights and sirens, and the driver reportedly accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed. The driver exited onto U.S. Hwy 301 but immediately got back onto SR 20 westbound, reportedly weaving through other vehicles without regard for the safety and property of the public. The deputy reported that the vehicle exceeded 100 mph and disregarded all traffic control devices.

As the Subaru approached SE 171st Street, the deputy saw the driver raise both his hands out of the driver’s side window, and then the driver, later identified as Hendrickson, pulled over and surrendered.

Hendrickson has been charged with fleeing with lights and sirens active and reckless driving. He has two felony convictions (none violent) and one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent); he has served one state prison sentence for grand theft and was released in July 2023. He is on pre-trial release in Marion County on a misdemeanor case and has an active felony warrant out of Marion County. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $125,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
