The most popular 'dream jobs' around the world revealed

Around the world in 80 gigs.

Dreaming of soaring through the skies “every night and day?” You’re in good company. A fascinating map showcasing the world’s most desired occupations revealed that being a pilot was the most coveted job globally, while in the United States, flight attendant took the top spot.

“Stepping into the cockpit remains a dream for thousands around the world,” declared financial services provider Remitly, which compiled the dream vocation survey.

To deduce the most desired roles on Earth, financial services provider Remitly “analyzed global Google search trends for 186 countries over the past year, examining the roles people are curious about in every corner of the world.”

They examined searches such as “how to be a pilot” to capture the aspirations and curiosity of those fantasizing about landing the perfect career.

These results were then compiled into a map that’s been color-coded to denote the most popular career choices in each country.

Proving that the sky’s not the limit when it comes to international vocations, flyboy was far and away the most desirable gig with a staggering 432,360 searches for “how to be a pilot” (and its translations) in the past year alone.

This jet-setting career was ranked the most wanted gig in countries like the Czech Republic, Egypt, and Slovakia.

Coming in second on the global job market was attorney, which jumped up 17 spots from the last Remitly survey in 2022.

This career aspiration garnered over 393,380 global searches over the last year.

In fact, the complex legal field was overwhelmingly one of the most desired career paths with “how to be a prosecutor” ranking 8th while “how to be a judge” rounded out the list in 10th.

Law enforcement was ranked the third most popular gig (272,000 searches) — a 440% surge in interest from two years ago.

This was perhaps a surprising choice given the job’s difficult and dangerous nature.

Last year, assaults on New York City police officers soared to new records, according to crime experts, who blamed the disturbing phenomenon on anti-cop sentiment, soft-on-crime prosecutors, and revolving door lockup policies.

Rounding out the top five coveted careers in the world were pharmacists (272,630 searches), and nurses (248,720 searches, which Remitly attributed to “the sheer admiration these professions gained throughout the pandemic.”

The popularity of influencing also played a role as clout-seeking youngsters seem to increasingly prefer pulling online pranks and unboxing things on camera to a 9-to-5.

Youtuber was the 13th most coveted vocation (171,840) worldwide, topping the list in 13 countries, including England, Scotland, Singapore, and Indonesia.

However, while this unorthodox gig remains highly desired, “searches have dipped by 11% compared to 2022, indicating that the desire to become a YouTuber may be decreasing,” per Remitly.

Perhaps the platform’s dream job status will see an upswing if and when TikTok gets the boot.

As for the United States, flight attendant was the most desired gig (17th worldwide with 154,810 searches) despite the myriad inflight incidents and deceptively low pay.

We’ve listed the top ten most desirable vocations on Earth below:

  1. Pilot

  3. Police officer
  4. Pharmacist
  5. Nurse
  6. Physical therapist
