An airline pilot was removed from a plane at a Georgia airport on Wednesday for allegedly being under the influence before embarking on a flight

David Allsop, 52, was arrested for a DUI at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. The incident led to delays which the airline apologized for in a statement issued to WTOC.

Allsop was slated to fly the plane to Chicago’s Midway Airport before his arrest.

“[The officer] went into the cockpit,” a passenger on Wednesday’s flight told WHDH. “He walked back out of the plane, came back a couple minutes later, and the pilot left with him.”

A TSA spokesperson told WHDH that an agency officer at the airport noticed Allsop, who reeked of alcohol and seemed intoxicated while walking through the crew screening lane. The TSA officer then called the local police.

Allsop, who is from New Hampshire, was released from a Chatham County jail on a $3,500 bond.

Southwest Airlines said Allsop has been removed from his role in light of Wednesday’s arrest.
