LSU’s backup quarterback Colin Hurley was injured in an on-campus crash around 2:45 a.m. Thursday and found unresponsive.

According to ESPN, a new quarterback crashed his Dodge Charger into a tree at approximately 3 in the morning local time. Emergency medical services and firefighters then transported him to a hospital in the Baton Rouge area.

The school told ESPN that it couldn’t comment on the incident due to Hurley’s age at 17.

“We are working through proper protocols with his family before we can have any comment,” LSU spokesman Zach Greenwell said, per the outlet.

The family of Hurley expressed gratitude to the first responders, medical staff at Our Lady of the Lake Health, and Tiger Fans for their support. They released a statement to ESPN, mentioning that Colin is currently stable and resting. Additionally, they mentioned that he is receiving further medical attention and tests, expressing confidence in his complete recovery.

Local news outlet WBRZ in Baton Rouge reported that when the first responders arrived, Hurley was still breathing. However, he was drifting in and out of consciousness and had a significant cut on his face.

Officials said Hurley wasn’t suspected of being impaired and the cause of the crash was still under investigation.

Hurley, who is from Jacksonville, Florida, spent 2024 as the third-string quarterback behind Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren on the Tigers’ depth chart.

He didn’t make appearances for LSU this season as a freshman.

Hurley was ranked as the 25th-best quarterback in the 2024 class by 247Sports.
