SAVANNAH, Ga. () — In just over two weeks, the Savannah State Baseball team will open the season at home. This game will also be the first time 19 seasons that Carlton Hardy is not the head coach.

Having only been on campus for six weeks, Tino Burgos took over the program on Dec. 3, 2024. SSU Baseball is a program that has experienced a lot of success in the last two seasons, including finishing second in the conference tournament both seasons.

Coach Tino had to replace some of the key contributors are from last year’s team, but he said that he thinks this group is ready to take home the crown.

“I’m walking into a good group of guys is what I’m getting at,” Burgos said. “So it’s kind of like riding a bike with some of these guys. You know, they know where to be, they know what to do. Coach Hardy obviously did an excellent job with recruiting and with level of talent he has here. It’s really exciting to be a part of and so I’m excited. I wasn’t able to bring in some guys or two, but I think that the pieces we need to be successful are here already.”

Savannah State starts the season with a home doubleheader against the University of Fort Lauderdale. The first pitch from Tiger Field is at noon.
