Brad Pitt has a handful of self-proclaimed look-alike fans, but scammers upped the ante in 2023 when they created an AI version of the A-lister and swindled a French woman out of $855,000.

The victim, a 53-year-old interior designer named Anne shared her story on French television channel TF1 in January 2025, leading Brad’s team to respond to the bizarre crime.

Brad Pitt AI Scammer Targets French Woman

During her interview, Anne, revealed that she was first contacted by an AI scammer pretending to be Brad’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, in February 2023. The scammers made the victim feel special, with the fake Jane telling Anne that she checked all the boxes to be her daughter-in-law. According to Variety, Anne was going through a divorce at the time.

“At first I said to myself that it was fake, that it’s ridiculous,” Anne admitted during her January 2025 interview. “But I’m not used to social media and I didn’t really understand what was happening to me.”

Anne was eventually connected with the AI Brad, whom she communicated with through various apps, including WhatsApp. The woman received AI photos of Brad that looked real enough for her to believe she was talking to the Ocean’s Eleven star.

AI Jane reached out to Anne again, claiming that Brad was battling kidney cancer and didn’t have enough money to undergo treatment, claiming that the Fight Club actor’s bank accounts were frozen due to his then-current divorce battle with ex-wife Angelina Jolie.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith costars finalized their divorce on December 30, 2024, eight years after they separated.

Despite her initial reluctance, the victim wired $855,000 into a bank account located in Turkey after she received a counterfeit doctor’s note.

In the midst of the scam, Brad and girlfriend Ines De Ramon took their relationship public at the Venice Film Festival in September 2024, which led the victim to realize she was never talking to the F1 actor.

“I ask myself why they chose me to do such harm like this?” Anne told TF1 during her tell-all. “I’ve never harmed anyone. These people deserve hell.”

Brad Pitt’s Team Reacts to AI Scam

Brad’s team reacted to the disheartening news in a statement to Variety in a story published on January 16, 2024.

“It’s awful that scammers take advantage of the strong bond between fans and celebrities,” Brad’s spokesperson told the publication at the time. “This is an important reminder not to respond to unsolicited online messages, especially from actors who are not present on social networks.”

Anne’s initial interview was pulled from the French station days after her interview aired due to an overwhelming amount of hate she received online with people mocking the images she received.

Anne reacted to the chatter during an interview with Le Figaro newspaper on January 15, 2025.

“Now, to begin with, I’ve never cheated on my husband in my life because I’m a caring woman, I’m not crazy or corny, as some people say or write on social networks,” she told the outlet. “I just wanted to help someone … and yes, I’ve been scammed. That’s why I came forward, because I’m not the only one in this situation.”
