Natasha Hobbs, whose son was shot and killed in 2017, says she participated in this walk to help bring light to her son’s unsolved murder.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Natasha Hobbs was one of the few people that came out in Springfield for the Jacksonville sheriff’s Office Annual Crime Prevention Walk.

Natasha Hobbs is the mother of Maurice Hobbs. He was killed in a double shooting in the Southside Estates area in 2017.

He was 18 years old when he was killed in a double shooting in the Southside Estates neighborhood. On Jan. 26, 2017, police arrived at a scene in the 10300 block of Agave Road and found two gunshot victims. Hobbs’ case is still unsolved.

“I’m his mom. My son may not physically be here but my fight for him is not over,” said Hobbs.

Sheriff T.K  Waters told First Coast News their department will never stop working on unsolved murders.

“It can be a 2010 case, it can be a 2009 case,” Waters said. “We don’t stop working on those cases. Sometimes those cases go a little dormant because there’s no new information but as soon as we get new information that case begins being worked again.

In Springfield, traffic fatalities are one of main concerns that came up in conversation to the sheriff during the crime prevention walk.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office there have been seven traffic fatalities so far in 2025.

Hobbs says community events like this are needed to solve cold cases.
