CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Multiple cities and organizations in Champaign County will come together on Sunday to celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Each year, Champaign, Urbana, Rantoul, Parkland College and the University of Illinois host a countywide celebration. And, during the ceremony, several members of the community will be honored with prestigious awards.
Three community members will receive awards in recognition for their work to uphold the principles and ideals of Dr. King.
Awards:
• Prestigious Community Service Award: Doris Hoskins
• Susan Freiburg Humanitarian Award: James R. Burgess, Jr.
• Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Outstanding Achievement Award: Terry Townsend
The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

And, the celebration continues into Monday morning.
