GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — Around 40 firefighters from 5 different fire departments responded to a large house fire in Gibson City early Monday morning.

Gibson City fire crews responded to the corner of Lott Boulevard and 12th Street around 3:30 a.m. When they arrived, they saw fire and smoke coming from both levels of the two-story home.

According to fire chief Bruce Kallal, the firefighters got the fire under control around 5:30 a.m. but the house was a total loss.

The family living in the home had driven themselves to the hospital by the time the fire responders arrived. As of Monday afternoon, Kallal did not know if anyone in the family was hurt from the fire. However, Kallal said that no firefighters were injured while working to put out the fire.

After the fire had been put out, crews stayed on the scene until 10:30 a.m. to clean up. Other responding fire department included Melvin-Roberts, Sibley, Elliott and Paxton.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Kallal said the Illinois State Fire Marshal will investigate.
