During his journey to the inauguration alongside former Vice President Kamala Harris, Vice President JD Vance made an embarrassing mistake that has caused quite a stir on social media.
On Monday, the two shared a limo as they rode together to the United States Capitol Rotunda, where the ceremony for Donald Trump was taking place.
However, cameras caught the awkward moment when Vance failed to get in on the correct side of the car.
Vance was seen loitering awkwardly as he waited by the door for Harris to slide across into her seat for him to follow.
As they were getting into the car, it became evident that Harris wasn’t going to switch seats. It took an aide’s gesture for Vance to realize he needed to enter the vehicle from the other side.
Unfortunately, however, the moment was not lost on social media users, as many took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their outrage.
A social media user shared a video of the incident, commenting on how Vance initially moved to the incorrect side of the limo. The user remarked on Vance’s subsequent actions, including him ignoring the Vice President’s security agent before finally understanding the situation.
Another person typed, ‘HAHAHAHHAHAH. The Secret Service made JD Vance walk around to use the other door to the limousine. Did he expect VP Kamala Harris to scooch over for him? She’s still the Vice President of the United States.’
‘LOL. They even have a whole walk through of where yours supposed to be,’ someone else claimed.
One X user remarked, ‘As if she was going to scooch over? Absolutely no hint of civility or social graces.’
‘Women don’t scoot across a back seat. Be a man JD,’ another wrote.
But while the moment may have looked awkward, it’s hard to know whether or not Vance was simply following protocol, or if he was expecting to slide in on the same side as Harris.
Thankfully, the limo ride was short, and the two made it safely to the inauguration ceremony, along with President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden.
After being sworn in Monday, Trump promised a ‘new golden age of America’ in his speech.
This will be Trump’s second term in office, as he served from 2017 to 2021, losing to Joe Biden in the 2020 race.
Trump mentioned the sniper’s attempt on his life during his inaugural speech, and said he believes his life was saved so he could regain the White House and ‘Make America Great Again.’
‘Just a few months ago, in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear, but I felt, then and believed even more so now that my life was saved for a reason,’ the president said.
‘I was saved by God to make America great again,’ he said invoking his signature phrase.
In his first remarks as the 47th president declared that the ‘golden age of America begins right now.’
‘From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world,’ he said.
‘My administration will be inspired by a strong pursuit of excellence and unrelenting success.’
‘We will not forget our country. We will not forget our Constitution, and we will not forget our God.’
‘The decline is over,’ he told about 600 allies, dignitaries and family members inside the U.S. Capitol building.
