AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Multiple roads and highways across Richmond County have been closed to traffic due to dangerous, icy conditions.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is urging all residents to avoid roadways unless it is absolutely necessary. There have been numerous wrecks and stalled vehicles due to the slick roads.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, these are the current road closures:

South Richmond County

• Peach Orchard Rd (Phinizy Rd to Tobacco Rd) – Both directions closed due to ice.
• Deans Bridge Rd at Meadowbrook Dr – Closed.
• Deans Bridge Rd Southbound at Hilson Rd – Closed.
• Barton Chapel Rd at Old McDuffie Rd – Detours required due to icy conditions; Roads and Bridges notified to install detour signs.
• Windsor Spring Rd at Richmond Hill Rd Northbound – Icy conditions reported.
• Tobacco Rd (Peach Orchard to Mike Padgett) – Closed due to ice on roadway.

North Richmond County

• Walton Way Ext/Crane Ferry Rd – Ice on roadway; impassable.
• Wrightsboro Rd/Hickman Rd – Requires salting.
• John C. Calhoun Expy/Washington Rd – Impassable.
• Wrightsboro Rd (Summerville to Downtown) – Requires salting.
• 800 Stevens Creek Rd – Ice on roadway.
• Belair Rd/Wrightsboro Rd – Ice uphill; vehicles unable to ascend.
• Highland Ave/Hazel St – Ice on roadway.
• Boy Scout Rd at Lafayette Dr – Icy conditions.
• Washington Rd/Beverly Heights Dr – Ice on roadway.

If you must be on the roads, today, use extreme caution. Drive very slowly and leave much more space between yourself and the cars in front of you. Keep you vehicle stocked with emergency supplies, such as phone charger banks, blankets, water, flashlights, etc.
