Augusta, Ga.()– Federal dollars to help with homeless programs comes from data collected over these next few days.

Augusta has seen a huge increase in the number of people who are homeless – especially with women.

Volunteers are canvassing streets, shelters and soup kitchens to count as many people as they can

“I would encourage anyone who wants to do something about homelessness in the area. This is a big way that they can help just by volunteering a few hours of their Friday night. To just go out and talk to these folks. It’s going to be super safe. Every group has a Richmond County marshal or deputy. So you’re never in danger. And really, I just want to also clarify, a lot of the clients that we see and the folks who are experiencing homelessness are not dangerous people,” Janelys Villalta, Marketing and PR Manager for the Salvation Army said.

Tonight ‘GAP Ministries’ will conduct the PIT Count.
