() After responding to a 911 call at an apartment complex, seven San Antonio, Texas, seven police officers were wounded in a shooting Wednesday night.

The officers were initially responding to a standard call for someone who was committing suicide.

When they arrived, a woman outside said that someone inside had begun shooting. The man came outside and then began shooting at officers.

“Officers (were) called to the scene for a suicide in progress and the first officer arrived, was shot and six others were subsequently shot,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus. “SWAT arrived on the scene, the suspect barricaded himself in an apartment for several hours.”

Some nearby residents were forced to evacuate, while others in the apartment complex were recording on the phone. The videos show chaos as police returned fire.

The suspect is deceased but it’s not clear if he died from a self-inflicted wound or if he was shot by SWAT officers.

Police say the suspect was 46-year-old Brandon Poulous. Poulous was arrested three times in just the past week.

On Jan. 18, 2025, he was arrested for violation of a protective order and he was also arrested for assault and DWI. He was released on bond the next day.

It’s not clear whether police were targeted in the incident and the department would not comment while its under active investigation.

The seven officers were rushed to the hospital. None of them had life-threatening injuries and are recovering.
