SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Despite snowfall interrupting practice, the Savannah State softball team continues preparation for its first game of the season in Jacksonville later this month.

The ladies will travel two hours south next weekend to play four games over two days. Savannah State hopes to build off last year’s 14-29 season. The big win for the Tigers was advancing to the conference tournament. Last year, only the top four seeds from East and West divisions earned a spot in the dance. The Tigers lost two straight in the tourney, but say they learned a lot from the experience.

“Go further, Savannah State outfielder Rayne Ford said. “Just be better. Have fun. Just bond and be a family. Going there we got beat. But it was a great learning experience. Like we learned how to lose even though it was the end. Like we all came together, tried our best.”

Savannah State begins the year with a doubleheader on Jan. 31 in Jacksonville. The first game is against Trinity Baptist and then they play the University of Fort Lauderdale.
