CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — More than 1,600 people are getting behind a new way to workout at the Stephens Family YMCA in Champaign.
The 11-part EGYM circuit customizes itself to every user. The workout takes less than 30 minutes to complete, but encompasses upper body, lower boy and ab exercises.
People start with a full body scan and an onboarding class. After that, users scan a wristband on each machine that tells the equipment how much weight and how many reps a person needs.
People are at each machine for 90 seconds and then, all at once, they switch and move down the line.
“It is a quick, easy workout,” said Wellness Director Eddie Edwards. “You can do multiple rounds if you want to, but it does really take away a lot of the thought process. You just scan in, everything is set up for you and you literally just have to follow the path.”
The Stephens Family YMCA was one of eight in the country where more than 500 people signed up for EGYM within the first 30 days. Now, about 1,645 people are onboarded.
The circuit evaluates people after every six workouts to reassess their strength. From that data, the resistance and number of reps can change to keep the workout challenging.
