DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A historic Decatur private school is suing a health clinic that’s trying to move into the building next door.
St. Teresa High School is off Water St., where Heritage Behavioral Health Center said their new location will be. In the lawsuit, St. Teresa’s said the clinic would be within 100 feet of their building, and the school is complaining the clients loiter around their current facility and that feces has been found on sidewalks.
Additionally, Decatur Police were called there more than 100 times last year. The school said a location next door is a safety risk for their students. Some families have told them they’re considering changing schools.
The school is asking for a permanent injunction to stop Heritage from moving in. The legal team for St. Teresa sent a statement to WCIA saying they do not want to comment and will wait for things to play out in court. On the other hand, Heritage released a statement, saying in part:
“We are confident that those we serve are not a threat… We are hopeful that St. Teresa will reconsider this legal action and be willing to meet with our leadership to understand how Heritage plans to be a great neighbor and ensure the safety of St. Teresa’s students and faculty, those we serve, and the community.”
