JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of a 23-year-old Johnson City man in 2021.
According to the office of First Judicial District Attorney General Steven Finney, a jury found Christopher Brian Jones guilty of second-degree murder by fentanyl overdose and other charges on Jan. 16.
The murder charge stems from the “overdose homicide of Isaiah Beatty” in November 2021, a news release from Finney’s office states. Beatty was found dead by his family on the morning of Nov. 1.

Jones was arrested on Nov. 4, 2021, after Johnson City police and the First Judicial District Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at his Jonesborough home. Police reportedly found fentanyl, methamphetamine, fake pressed Xanax pills, propofol, drug paraphernalia and several guns.
In addition to the murder charge, Jones was charged with the sale of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl with intent to sell/deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony offense.
The jury returned a guilty verdict on all charges against Jones.
“These convictions carry 15-25 years at 100% for the murder of Isaiah Beatty, 8-12 years at 30% on the meth and fentanyl convictions, and a mandatory minimum of 3 years at 100% for Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Dangerous Felony Offense,” the release states.
Jones is set to be sentenced on April 17.
News Channel 11 spoke with Beatty’s parents in October 2023. They described the difficulty and pain of losing their child and said they hoped Jones would face justice.
