Sierra McKenzie was found dead in a pool of her own blood on College Circle South late Thursday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Sierra McKenzie, a Jacksonville woman who was found face down on a sidewalk in a pool of blood late Thursday night.

McKenzie was just 33 years old and was found on College Circle South, which is just a few blocks west of Edward Waters University. She was spotted by a person drying by around 11:05 p.m.

Right now all that remains of the crime scene where McKenzie’s body was found is a Crimestoppers sign.

“There was substantial amount of trauma to the head,” said JSO Sgt. Steven Rudlaff.

This is a case that has JSO and a family looking for answers. McKenzie’s daughter, Kamya Cockfield, described her mother as a kind and happy person who was outgoing and her best friend.

“For whoever did happen to do this, you have a bad heart,” Cockfield said.

Right now there is limited information about the moments leading up to McKenzie’s death.

“At this point there are no shell casings found, we do know there was trauma to the head,” said Rudlaff.

As the sun rose over the crime scene, McKenzie’s daughter recalled walking by the sidewalk where her mother’s body was found.

“Kind of mixed emotions a little bit, knowing that that is my mother at the end of the day, we had our ups and downs,” said Cockfield. “My mama was always my best friend, we had our ups and downs on and off but I love my mamma no matter what.”

JSO’s investigation continues and so far no suspects have been made public. McKenzie’s daughter hopes her mother’s death on a sidewalk can bring their community together.

“If we get justice, get peace, I feel like we’ll be ok,” said Cockfield. “Everyone comes together as one and to be part of the family and the black community, I feel like everybody should be good, everybody hold hands, pray, bow down and do good.”

Anyone with information about the death of Sierra McKenzie is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crimestoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
