Colorado hotline sees increased ICE raid reports around Denver

DENVER (KDVR) A local organization said there has been a surge in the number of people reporting possible ICE raids around the Denver metro.

The increase in reports began after President Donald Trump signed new executive orders that called for stepped-up immigration laws.

The calls are being made to the Colorado Rapid Response Network. People who see possible ICE actions are asked to call a number to report what they are seeing.

The reports have been pouring in about agents reportedly showing up in places like Denver, Aurora and Boulder.

One of the organization’s goals is to offer undocumented immigrants information about what they should do if they encounter ICE agents.

“If you just saw a social media post, try to get as much detail as possible before you call the hotline to make sure it’s actually a plausible ICE raid or activity,” Colorado Rapid Response Network dispatcher Raquel Lane-Arellano said.

The new executive orders have brought a surge of ICE reports. The network said none of the calls they received this week have been confirmed, but they know ICE is making arrests.

“That’s not to say that ICE isn’t out in the community and that action isn’t coming. We encourage people to stay vigilant, keep calling the hotline if you see activity,” Lane-Arellano said.

When a call is received, a team is sent to the location to verify the information.

But Denver’s former field office director, John Fabbricatore, said what people are seeing may be agents making their usual arrests.

“They go out on those cases daily. They have been going out on those cases in the last four years, and you can see that through the Biden administration statistics on nationwide arrests that ICE has made,” Fabbricatore said.

Fabbricatore said ICE agents spend time going after undocumented violent offenders, but others without a violent criminal history can be arrested as well.

The response network said there are many unknowns about how stepped-up operations will take place, and that has led some to worry.

The rapid response hotline expects to see more calls coming in the months ahead.

FOX31 reached out to ICE headquarters for comment, but so far, has not received a response.
