COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A house in rural Coles County has been deemed a total loss after a fire Thursday.
The fire happened on East County Road 000N in Trilla at a single-story residence, the Lincoln Fire Protection District said on Facebook. Firefighters were dispatched around 12:40 p.m. Thursday and when they arrived they saw the roof on fire with smoke coming out.
Firefighters deployed three hose lines for both an interior and exterior attack on the fire. The fire progressed into the attic and exterior walls, but was contained to the initial building.
The cold inhibited the response to the fire; some equipment first responders used had a coat of ice.

Ambulance workers treated one firefighter for their injuries, who was released at the scene.
The residence is considered a total loss, fire officials said on Facebook. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Red Cross is helping the family, who was displaced. No one was home at the time of the fire.
Along with the Lincoln Fire Protection District, Coles-Moultrie 911 (CECOM), the Mattoon Fire Department, the Humbolt Fire Protection District, the Wabash Fire Protection District, the Cooks Mill Fire Protection District, Ameren Electric & Gas, the American Red Cross and the Office of the State Fire Marshal all assisted in the response to the fire.
