Mark Wahlberg talks shocking physical transformation to play bald pilot in new Mel Gibson flick 'Flight Risk': 'We just shaved it'

Mark Wahlberg’s wife wasn’t flying high after seeing his shocking hair transformation.

The actor, 53, decided to shave his head instead of wearing a bald cap for the new Mel Gibson action blockbuster, “Flight Risk.”

“There was not a bald cap involved. I shaved the top and kept the hair in a horseshoe shape around the sides. We simply shaved it,” stated Wahlberg in an interview with People that was published on Friday.

“Every day, they would shave the top very closely to the scalp to ensure there was no stubble. So, I just covered it up with a hat.”

“The most priceless thing was seeing my wife [Rhea Durham’s] face when I took my hat off after getting the hair cut for work that day,” he added

Wahlberg plays a pilot flying a federal agent (Michelle Dockery) and a fugitive (Topher Grace) across Alaska in the thrilling flick.

Wahlberg and his wife Durham, who got married in 2009, have four children: Ella, 20, Michael, 18, Brendan, 15, and Grace, 14. All of them found their father’s new hairstyle quite amusing.

“Oh, they’re gonna love it. My kids — my boys especially — they loved the haircut,” he quipped. “They got a lot of laughs out of that.”

Since “Flight Risk” was filmed in just 22 days, Wahlberg only had to rock the shaved head for a few weeks before ditching it.

“I don’t like the makeup chair. I mean, I don’t like touchups and all that stuff,” he told the outlet. “I kind of like to do all that prep and everything leading up to it. Then by the time we’re actually working, I don’t like to be kind of picked and poked and prodded. I like to kind of just do my thing.

“For me, yeah, it’s not fun. You know, hopefully I can just kind of become the character,” Wahlberg admitted. “Wearing a fake — either a wig or mustache, I always feel like it feels ridiculous.”

Along with a total hair transformation, “The Union” alum underwent a personality shift while on set.

“I was locked into the part the whole time. So if we weren’t shooting, I was like either off in the corner by myself or I just would kind of go back to my little dressing room and just sit there,” he told People on Friday.

“Flight Risk” is in theaters now.
