A woman has been charged with murder after another woman was found dead in a Perth retirement home.

Police said the alleged killer and victim had shared a room at the Port Kennedy facility, in the city’s south, for only four days.

Emergency services were called to Bethanie Waters Aged Care Home on Olivenza Crescent after an 88-year-old woman was found dead at 4.10am on Friday.

A 75-year-old woman was taken into custody and earlier today police announced she’d been charged with murder.

Bethanie chief executive Roulé Jones said the company was cooperating with the police investigation.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and the loved ones of the deceased,” she said.

“Our staff responded quickly and professionally when the alarm was raised.

“We wish to reassure the public that no Bethanie staff were involved in this incident.

“The safety, wellbeing and care of our residents remain our highest priority.”

The 75-year-old woman was due to face Northbridge Magistrates Court via video link today.
