Media reports say Adam Louis Anson, 37, was charged with second-degree murder and burglary with assault or armed battery in Carlos Alberto Gonzalez’s death.

MIAMI — A 57-year-old man was killed after Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies said he was shot to death by his landlord during an argument involving a thermostat.

According to a report from CBS News, Adam Louis Anson, 37, was charged with second-degree murder and burglary with assault or armed battery in Carlos Alberto Gonzalez’s death.

The shooting happened around 8 a.m. Saturday on Southwest 17th Terrace in Westchester, a report from NBC Miami said. Anson reportedly attempted to gain access to an attached efficiency apartment located on the east side of his home while armed with a semi-automatic pistol.

Arrest documents obtained by CBS News said Anson was trying to get inside the apartment to adjust the hallway thermostat.

“Gonzalez opened the door, at which Anson allegedly forced himself inside the apartment and began to punch him unprovoked,” CBS stated in the report.

Anson then reportedly dragged Gonzalez outside to the backyard before shooting him “several times in the head,” according to the arrest documents.

After adjusting the thermostat, Annson called emergency responders and claimed Gonzalez allegedly tried to hit him, prompting him to pull out his gun and shoot the 57-year-old. The landlord claimed his actions were in self-defense, CBS said.

Anson was arrested soon after and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
