Outgoing DNC Chair: Dems should focus on ‘infrastructure that we have’

Outgoing Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Jaime Harrison said in a Sunday interview that Democrats should focus on building on the existing infrastructure from the past election cycle.

In an interview on ‘s “The Hill Sunday,” Harrison also added that he thinks he’s leaving the DNC in a better position than when he found it.

“I actually think the DNC that I am about to turn over the keys over to, this next chair, is much stronger than the DNC that I had. And that’s, that’s what you want,” Harrison said. “You want to make sure that you’re turning over better than what you had.”

Harrison said the DNC invested $260 million on the ground in state parties, providing the next chair a foundation to build infrastructure.

“For the first time in a very long time, we put money into every state party, all 50 states, our territories and our Democrats abroad. And those are resources, and that helped to build an infrastructure that this new chair will then be able to build on top of,” Harrison said. “But there’s still so much more to do.”

Harrison said that while Vice President Harris lost the race at the top of the ticket, there were still some battleground states where Democrats defeated Republicans in Senate races.

“The election results were not what we wanted, as it relates to the top of the ticket, but when you start to look on the down-ballot of the ticket… we still won very highly contested congressional races in those districts, even in states like North Carolina, we won every almost every statewide race, with the exception of the presidential race,” Harrison said.

“So this is not a time where you just blow the whole thing up and start anew. It’s a time about building on the infrastructure that we have so that we can, then, in 2028 once again, secure the White House for the American people.”
