Grantchester has made a triumphant return with its ninth season, much to the delight of fans eager to see DI Geordie Keating (Robson Green) and his squad back in action on their television screens.

The series has already gripped audiences, particularly with the poignant departure of Vicar Will Davenport (Tom Brittney), signalling the end of the dynamic between Will and Geordie.

But it appears that there’s plenty more drama and heart-wrenching moments ahead, as actor Robson teases future developments for his character in the ongoing season nine of Grantchester.

He delved into Geordie’s relationship with Cathy (Kacey Ainsworth), hinting at a significant “challenge” the beloved pair will face in upcoming episodes.

Robson disclosed: “At home, things get tricky when Cathy hits the menopause and it becomes a challenge for her and for Geordie, who doesn’t handle it well.”

He elaborated: “I quite like the fact that Geordie’s a bit stuck in his ways. It’s realistic. I think in the Sixties, the notion of men and women talking about how they’re feeling, both physically and mentally, was taboo. I remember my mother calling menopause ‘the change of life,’ but let’s say it how it is all that oestrogen is leaving the body and in Cathy’s case it’s having a catastrophic effect on her mood.”

Robson also expressed that his character feels as though he’s “losing” Cathy, who is “not smiling anymore”. Fortunately, Mrs. C steps in to aid the struggling couple, reports Wales Online.

“The storyline has slight levity to it because they’re both trying to understand what’s going on, but the actual pathos of it is that Geordie feels he’s losing Cathy. She’s not smiling anymore and that really upsets him. So he seeks advice from the one and only Mrs. C, who comes to the rescue,” he added.

Elsewhere, Robson has quashed any rumours that he might exit Grantchester as his co-star Tom did. In a conversation with the press, Robson remarked: “I never get itchy feet because I’m at a stage in my life where I want to work with people who make me genuinely happy, in front of the lens and behind it.”

He declared: “I’m not chasing awards. I’m not chasing fame. I’m just being present in a very enjoyable and healthy environment, and that’s what Grantchester is. It’s one of the nicest jobs I have ever done in my career.”
