Craig Melvin Forced To Get Savannah Guthrie’s Face Tattooed On His Neck After Losing A Bet: “This Is Why We Don’t Gamble, Kids!”

Go, birds! Monday (Jan. 27) was a day of celebration for Eagles fans everywhere after the team beat the Washington Commanders in the playoffs, advancing them to the Super Bowl — and Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie made sure to show her pride by sporting a bright green dress for her team. And, of course, by cashing in on the bet she placed with her new co-anchor, Craig Melvin.

Melvin had bet on the Commanders winning against the Eagles. Unfortunately for him, their loss meant he had to get a temporary tattoo of Guthrie’s face and the Eagles logo on his neck.

“This is why we don’t gamble, kids!” Melvin warned viewers.

Carson Daly helped apply the temporary tattoo to the back of Melvin’s neck during the morning broadcast. The tattoo may be temporary, but Daly warned Melvin that the design may last longer than he’d hope.

“My 10-year-old daughter wore one of these fake tattoos, and we couldn’t get it off for 6 months. So Craig, if you’re at tubby time tonight and this doesn’t come off easily, don’t worry,” Daly joked.

Guthrie was thrilled with the finished product.

“Oh my God, it looks so good, Craig,” she said.

Melvin, however, had to take her word for it. “I wish I could see it,”  he joked. The Today Show anchor also received an Eagles jersey bearing Saquon Barkley’s name.

Fortunately for Melvin, the hilarious moment will forever be a part of The Today Show. “Don’t worry, you’ll see it on TV!” Guthrie quipped.

This is not the first time a Today Show host has pulled such a stunt on the broadcast. Just last week, Jenna Bush Hager got matching “best friend” ear piercings with her guest host Scarlett Johansson during the fourth hour of Today. Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb, Melvin’s predecessor, also joked about getting matching tattoos on the show, though it never quite panned out.

We’re sure there will likely be plenty more friendly competition from Guthrie and Melvin as the Eagles prepare to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Feb. 9. But it looks like Melvin’s learned his lesson and won’t be placing any more bets this season.

The Today Show airs weekdays beginning at 7/6c on NBC.
