BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. () — The recovery from this past hurricane season in Bryan County continues months later.

Family Promise of the Coastal Empire is now working in the area to assist families struggling to rebuild after Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene. The flood water leaving behind devastation in several neighborhoods.

“For us, it was going into those homes and seeing that many of their rooms were still destroyed. They still had no walls, they still had no plumbing, and they still had no doors,” Family Promise CEO Katrina Bostick said.

The Ogeechee River rose to near-record levels in August 2024. Around six months later, many of those homes are empty or waiting for repairs.

Bostick is one of many volunteers knocking on doors and offering personalized case management. They are working to help people reach their financial, physical and emotional needs.

“If we do know that there is a household that is food insecure, we can process SNAP benefits to see if their eligible for those things or connect them to local food banks in this community,” Bostick said. “We have waystation, so we’ll connect them to those resources that are in the community so that some point, they can become whole.”

Family Promise will be in Bryan County for the next two weeks with two locations:

  • Richmond Hill at the Church on the Hill, Monday through Friday
  • Pembroke at City Hall, Monday and Wednesday

With the FEMA application deadline rapidly approaching on Feb. 7, 2025, Family
Promise will prioritize applications to ensure all impacted households receive the
assistance they need to meet this important deadline.
