() Tragedy can often bring out the best in humanity and several hairstylists in Los Angeles are ensuring the sentiment rings true.

Ja’Von Paige, a hairstylist born and raised in the fire-affected, largely Black populated area of Altadena, decided to give back by offering to do residents’ hair for free.

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Paige, along with other hairstylists, provided haircuts and styling for the community.

Approximately 35 people attended Monday’s event at the Extended Beauty Bar in Glendale, California, after almost 250 people at an event the day prior.

“All of us are struggling, and one thing about our hair is it’s going to take some time, and that’s one thing I don’t have, time and capacity,” Jada Tarvin-Abu-Bekr, a woman receiving braids, told the Times.

“Being able to get a cut before I go back into work, get a facial, see people that have experienced what I’ve experienced is really everything for me,” Jonathan Gonzalez, an engineer with L.A. County Public Works said, via the LA Times.

Despite a 99% containment of the Eaton fire, which decimated Altadena, mudslides are considered a threat to the area this weekend, with rain expected through Monday.
