HUDSON, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man dressed in a Dalmatian onesie will be held in his own cage after fleeing troopers in a vehicle, then running away with one handcuff on, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Just after midnight on Monday, a trooper spotted a red pickup truck speeding down US-19 near Aripeka Road in Hudson, swerving all over the roadway.
After the trooper activated their lights and sirens on their patrol car, the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Dylan Keith Devereaux, fled. According to FHP, Devereaux even dropped off a passenger, made a U-turn, and continued to flee.
The video shows the moments after Devereaux continued fleeing when he crashed into a tree at the intersection of Girard Road and Jerbert Drive.
Devereaux took off on foot and was tased by the trooper. As he was being placed in handcuffs, the suspect began fighting the trooper on the road and was subsequently tased again.
According to the arrest report, Devereaux pushed the trooper and began to run toward his home on Girard Road, with one handcuff on. He then disappeared into a nearby woodline.
Another trooper and his K-9 arrived at the scene, sweeping the backyard of the home and wooded area.
Inside the New Port Richey home, Devereaux’s girlfriend, 31-year-old Megan Elizabeth Hamilton, told officials she did not want them in her home because she had drugs inside and didn’t want to go to jail. Hamilton also told them Devereaux was not inside, but later said she was worried about what Devereaux would reach for if they entered the home.
Devereaux was arrested, wearing a lanyard with a pouch containing an unknown white pill substance and meth. He told troopers that he disposed of the handcuffs somewhere while running between houses.
According to FHP, Devereaux is charged with fleeing to elude, escaping, reckless driving, leaving the scene involving property damage, battery on an officer, assault on an officer, resisting an officer with and without violence, depriving an officer of equipment, possession of drug equipment, petit larceny, and possession of a new legend drug and of methamphetamine.
Hamilton was also arrested for resisting an officer without violence.
Both Devereaux and Hamilton were taken to the Pasco Detention Center.
