Now, her stepmother Suzana Dazar dos Santos has been accused of her murder.

Prosecutors claim that Santos was caring for Isabelly while her father, whom she saw every Friday and Saturday, was at work.

It is alleged that moments before she lured the tot to her death by placing her toys in and around the open washing machine, she filmed Isabelly in what is the last time anyone saw her alive.

Santos is accused of “placing a plastic stool in front of the washing machine which was full of water.”

She also allegedly “placed some of the child’s toys inside the aforementioned appliance” and “placed Isabelly on the bench so she could play with the objects that were in the water.”

Isabelly ended up drowning after she fell into the machine.

Police said that Santos discovered the lifeless child and called for help.

Despite all desperate attempts, Isabelly could not be revived.

Prosecutors claim that the twisted stepmother then left the three-year-old “alone and unsupervised for long enough for the death event to occur.”

In the video of Isabelly taken by her stepmother moments before her death, the little girl could be seen wearing a pink top rolling up her sleeves in what looks like the utility room.

It is alleged that the stepmother was motivated to kill the innocent child because of the jealousy she felt about her and the connection between the girl’s father and mother.

It is claimed that Santos felt possessive of Isabelly’s father and believed that the child was harming their relationship because of his relationship with her mother.

Santos has been charged with wilful homicide, use of asphyxiation, and domestic and family violence.

The charges were accepted by authorities on January 14 but her lawyers argue that the Isabelly’s death was “an accident” and that the claims against their client are an exaggeration of what happened.

Lawyers Paulo Hara Junior and Suelane Gundim say that Santos had a good relationship with her stepdaughter, and that the girl felt the same.

“There is no evidence that she intended to take her life,” they argue.

Gundim said: “We understand that there is no intent, there are no marks, nothing mentioning this in the process.”

However, Isabelly’s biological mother who has not been named claims Santos is guilty.

Her lawyer Alexander Beilner said: “She [Santos] prepared the entire situation for the crime to happen.

“The machine, the stool, she was wearing socks, the toys were placed in the water.

“Based on her family history, she was not one to play, several indications lead us to believe that everything was prepared, so that it would result in death.”

He continued: “The fact that she spent more than 30 minutes alone in a laundry room in these serious circumstances.

“All of this evidence in the records, show it was a deliberate act by the stepmother.”

Meanwhile, Alex dos Santos Assumpção, Isabelly’s father, who is no longer with Santos, has joined the family’s calls for justice.

He told RPC: “Nothing will repair the loss, having lost her, but justice will calm our hearts a little.

“Due to the evidence that we have, that has come and that is yet to come, we believe that they are very right.

“These recent times have not been easy for us, because it is an irreparable loss, I can say that I do not want anyone to go through what we went through, but I want justice to be served.”

Santos and her lawyers have until January 31 to officially issue a response to the accusations after which a judge will decide if the case continues to trial by jury or if the charges should be changed.
