Ryan Whyte Maloney competed on ‘The Voice’ Season 6 in 2014.

The Voice alum Ryan Whyte Maloney had died at age 44. 

The musician, who competed on the NBC competition show in 2014, died by suicide, the Clark County Coroner confirmed to People. 

Maloney received a four-chair turn for his The Voice Season 6 blind audition song, “Lights,” by Journey. He eventually became one of judge Blake Shelton’s top 5 finalists. While on the show, Maloney recorded four singles for UMG Records: “Lights” by Journey, Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It,”  “Easy” by Rascal Flatts, and “Second Chance” by Shinedown. He also returned to perform live during the season 6 finale.

A multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter, Maloney grew up in Traverse City, Mich., where he honed his love of music. After years of touring and recording with the band Indulge, he released his solo album Where I’ve Been. Maloney performed around the United States at small clubs and large festivals before joining The Voice. After the show, he continued to record and perform, including at the 2024 opening of Ole Red, a venue owned by Blake Shelton and Opry Entertainment, according to a bio on his website. Maloney also had a residency at Ole Red and performed with Shelton at the venue.
