UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Flag Pond man has been arrested on multiple drug charges after allegedly conspiring to get narcotics into the Unicoi County Jail.
A news release from the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) stated that deputies arrested Michael Hensley, 47, on Tuesday.
Hensley was indicted in September 2024 after an investigation that reportedly found he and others had been “involved in the introduction of drugs into the Unicoi County Jail,” the release states.
The indictment charged Hensley with the following:
- Conspiracy to introduce drugs into a penal facility
- Criminal attempt to introduce drugs into a penal facility
- Conspiracy to sell or deliver a Schedule II narcotic
- Possession of a Schedule II narcotic with intent to sell or deliver
The UCSO reports additional warrants were also executed during Hensley’s arrest.
According to the UCSO, deputies found out Hensley had been avoiding capture and moving around. They learned he was staying in the 3000 block of Temple Hill Road, which prompted a surveillance operation.
Hensley was identified on Tuesday as he left the home in a vehicle and traveled to a restaurant in Erwin. The sheriff’s office reportedly blocked him in at the restaurant’s drive-thru and took him into custody.
No further details were released.
