South Carolina releases latest flu report

COLUMBIA, S.C. () — South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) reported over 10 influenza-related deaths in their flu report Wednesday.

The DPH issues a health report weekly to keep people inform about the flu.

These are the main takeaways of the report from Jan. 12-Jan. 18:

  • DPH reported a widespread of activity throughout the state, indicating an increase of influenza reports since the previous week
  • 20,299 lab-confirmed tests have been reported in the current flu season with 5,711 lab-confirmed tests with just this week alone
  • There were 606 hospitalizations reported by 64 hospitals; currently, there is 2,098 influenza-related hospitalizations this flu season
  • They have reported 13 influenza-related deaths with 2 of them happening during the previous weeks
  • Most of the deaths and hospitalizations came from ages 65 and older
  • There are a total of 30 influenza-related deaths this flu season
