MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — A salon in Mahomet is rallying behind one of their own, who has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer.
Karley Bridgwater is a stylist at Salon 105, who has recently entered the “battle of a lifetime,” according to the salon. She’s been diagnosed with Triple Negative Invasive Mammary Carcinoma, which is aggressive and can spread quickly.
To help support Karley and her family, friends, and coworkers are organizing a couple of different fundraisers to assist with medical and household bills.
A GoFundMe has been set up, and is accepting donations now. So far, they’ve raised $11,310 with a goal of $50,000.
The salon also set up a tip jar at the front desk. Salon 105 said all of the money raised will go to Karley and her family to assist them however needed.
“We would love for you to participate but if you can’t, sending your love, prayers and healing energy will be equally appreciated,” Salon 105 said in a Facebook post.
Last, but certainly not least, the salon, and friends of Karley teamed up to design a shirt for members of the community to buy, with all proceeds going to Karley and her family.
Orders can be placed at Salon 105 in Mahomet, at Main Attraction or Syd & Sadie’s Boutique in Gibson City, or by texting Autumn Wise, a friend of Karley’s, at 217-778-2406. The orders will be placed on Feb. 15. If your payment is not received at the time of ordering, it won’t be included in the final order.
Karley shared a statement on Instagram, informing clients of her diagnosis, and thanking them for their support.
To my clients, my plan is to be behind the chair as often as my body will allow. I may need to adjust my schedule in the coming weeks/ months due to treatment, but I will do my absolute best to keep you informed every step of the way. If I am unable to service your appointment, I would trust anyone in the salon to give you amazing hair! I am so grateful for your patience and understanding. I may be biased, and I’ve said this so many times, but I truly have the most amazing clientele. You guys are so much more to me than just my job. This is more than just hair; it’s about real, lasting connections and I carry each of you in my heart. For now, I’ll be leaning on my medical team, and doing what I can to still live in normalcy. I am so grateful and blessed in this life. Thank you, from the bottom in my heart for choosing me.
