AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Shawn Antonio Walker, the suspect in the alleged shooting death of Shaneikwa Lafavor back in May 2023, was arrested Wednesday, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, Walker was located at a residence at approximately 5:20 on Jan. 29 on the 1700 block of Watkins Street by the Southeastern U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, which included two members of the RCSO.

Upon contact, Walker reportedly refused to exit the residence and comply with law enforcement directives. RCSO’s SWAT Team was also called to the scene. After negotiations, Walker was taken into custody without incident.

On May 22, 2023, officers responded to a call of shots-fired at a home on East Taylor Street. Upon arrival, deputies found Shaneikwa Latorya LaFavor, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Coroner’s Office. Two others were also injured.

LaFavor’s family spoke out after the incident, holding a balloon release in her memory and pleading for the gun violence to stop.

“We sincerely thank the Southeastern U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, the Road Patrol, and the Crime Suppression Team for their diligent efforts in ensuring a peaceful resolution to this case,” said Sheriff Eugene Brantley.

The families of the victims have been notified of Walker’s arrest.
