American Eagle flight 5342 was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., when it collided with an Army helicopter on Wednesday.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, winter Olympians and winners of the pairs title at the 1994 world championships, were aboard.

He said: “Unfortunately, we see that this sad information is being confirmed. There were other fellow citizens there. Bad news today from Washington.
