A woman and two young children were stabbed to death in New Jersey early Thursday morning.

Jersey City Police took a suspect, who had attempted to stab himself, into custody, WABC reported.

It’s not clear who called police to the basement apartment at around 1 a.m., but they found the woman, a 5-year-old, and a 9-year-old already dead. A window into the apartment was broken when they arrived.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said the incident was “related to domestic violence.”

No names or charges have been announced, but Fulop said police are working with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and that chaplains and social workers were on the scene.
