WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — Two people were arrested for drug possession on Thursday following a police pursuit, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 8:06 p.m. troopers said they witnessed a black Kia stop for a red light ‘almost completely over the stop bar’ before turning right onto Recker Highway and then taking a left on Avenue G NW.

According to FHP, the troopers activated their sirens and pursued the vehicle which began to accelerate.

Troopers said that during the pursuit, they reached speeds of 70 mph before finally conducting a PIT maneuver on Lake Silver Drive North, which caused the vehicle to rotate into a tree.

The driver, Chaniese Brionne Davis, 33, fled the vehicle and attempted to evade arrest.

After being tackled by troopers, FHP said Davis began to tense up causing them to tase her.

According to FHP, K9 Officers were called to the scene where they discovered Alex Dantrel Everett, 35, in the vehicle.

A further search of the vehicle uncovered a black and green colored backpack on the floor on the passenger side. Inside the backpack troopers discovered two handguns, multiple types of narcotics, empty plastic bags, and a scale with residue.

Troopers also found $1,211 in cash located in Everett’s pocket.

FHP said that while they were conducting their search Everett uttered multiple times, “Everything is mine” and that Davis “had nothing to do with it.”

Troopers also discovered that Davis, the alleged driver of the vehicle, did not have a valid driver’s license.

FHP arrested both individuals and charged Davis with fleeing to elude high speeds and driving without a valid license.

Everett was discovered by FHP to have outstanding warrants for his arrest. He also received multiple gun and drug charges.
