Reds could develop as dark horse Pete Alonso landing spot

How about long-shot Reds as a Pete landing spot?

Could the Reds pursue Pete Alonso? It’s probably a long shot, but with Alonso’s market not developing as expected, word is Cincy may consider it.

It’s not a common move for a high-profile free agent to transition from a major market in baseball to one of the smallest markets in the sport, which is the case with Cincinnati, tied with Milwaukee. However, the smaller size of Cincinnati’s ballpark could make it an appealing location for Alonso to showcase his skills and potentially enhance his market value. One potential scenario could involve Alonso signing a contract that includes provisions for early opt-outs, allowing him to explore other opportunities if he performs well.

The Angels and Giants are among others to check in on Alonso.

The Astros are apparently still willing to do the $156M, six-year deal they reportedly offered Alex Bregman in November, but he’s still hoping not to be cut from his $28.5M 2024 salary.

Bregman also has a lucrative six-year offer (with an opt-out after the first year) from a team that may not be not be high on his list.

The Cubs, who’ve already added his old Astros teammates Kyle Tucker and Ryan Pressly, look like a possible landing spot, while the Red Sox and Tigers are among others involved.

Folks made something out of Marcus Stroman unfollowing the Yankees on social media. But as of now, they still hadn’t found a trade for him.
