Real Madrid have barely blinked in the wake of their Supercopa de Espana humiliation and have rattled off four successive wins across three competitions.

We’re entering that time of the year when the perpetual European champions discover their voodoo groove. They’ve scored 17 times over the course of their four recent triumphs, and Carlo Ancelotti ominously suggested that Kylian Mbappe is “getting into a rhythm” after he bagged a hat-trick at the weekend.

Last week’s 5-1 win over RB Salzburg means Madrid can relax against Brest on Wednesday with their place in the Champions League knockout round play-offs secure. It’s not where they wanted to be, but three defeats in the league phase means a play-off berth was the best they could’ve hoped for entering the final two matchdays.

Here’s how Madrid could line up for their last league phase game.

GK: Thibaut Courtois – The Belgian recorded his first La Liga clean sheet in well over a month on Saturday and should start again despite Madrid’s secure status in the league phase table.

RB: Lucas Vazquez – Federico Valverde and Raul Asencio have been used at right-back in recent outings, but Vazquez is the preferred option to cover for long-term injury casualty Dani Carvajal.

CB: Antonio Rudiger – The German international is rarely taken out of the team, but Ancelotti may preserve his legs for the weekend by bringing him off before the game’s conclusion in Guingamp. Rudiger’s one of three players to start all seven league phase matches.

CB: David Alaba – Alaba is in contention not only record his first start of Madrid’s Champions League campaign, but first appearance full stop. The Austrian has earned three 20-minute cameos in recent outings having recovered from an ACL tear.

LB: Ferland Mendy – Fran Garcia got a run out in Valladolid with Mendy sitting on the bench for the contest’s duration. The Frenchman will surely get the nod back in his homeland.

CM: Aurelien Tchouameni – Ancelotti’s Swiss Army knife is floating between defence and midfield, with Alaba’s return set to facilitate some Tchouameni action as a number six in Eduardo Camavinga’s absence.

CM: Luka Modric – Dani Ceballos is proving that he has a considerable role to play for the holders this term, and Modric is continuing to defy father time by playing at an extremely high level again. His brilliance arrives in shorter bursts, but the Croatian’s genius remains distinct.

RM: Brahim Diaz – Minutes will be shared between Brahim and Arda Guler here with Vincius Junior suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Either player could start on the right.

AM: Jude Bellingham – Bellingham has also started every league phase match and is bound to complete the set on Wednesday.

LM: Rodrygo – The in-form Brazilian was superb in the 5-1 win over Salzburg, with his first goals of the Champions League campaign arriving last week. He’ll continue down the left with Vini Jr out.

ST: Kylian Mbappe – Kylian Mbappe looks like Kylian Mbappe again. Watch out, Europe.
