DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Humane Association of Warren County, Ohio, is asking for support after taking in hundreds of small animals from a reported “hoarding situation.”
Eli Hurley, executive director of the HAWC, posted to social media seeking support from area rescues and individuals who have proper knowledge of caring for small rodents, like gerbils and mice.
“So if you look in here, we have quite a few small gerbils, mice – things like that,” said Hurley. “Our animal shelter is built for both dogs and cats.”
Hurley confirmed to 2 NEWS that a hospitalized individual reportedly contacted the shelter, saying around 200 to 300 animals were at her home. When HAWC officials showed up to the property, it was reportedly determined that the number was roughly 300 to 500.
Six to seven huskies were reported to be in the backyard of the property, but only one survived, according to the executive director.
HAWC said all animals on the property were taken back to its facility, as they were allegedly all willingly surrendered by the owner.
Although no current charges have been filed, and the organization is determining next legal steps.
