First Coast News is teaming up with Who We Play For for a community heart screening event Feb. 11, 2025 in Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A simple test could help save your child’s life. An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a noninvasive heart screening that can detect electrical problems which can cause sudden cardiac arrest. Right now you can reserve a spot to have your child tested for free.

First Coast News is teaming up with the nonprofit, Who We Play For, for a community heart screening event. It’s for ages 10 to 22 on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Daily’s Place Flex Field, 1 EverBank Stadium Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32202. Each ECG will be read by a board-certified pediatric cardiologist.

It’s estimated one in every 300 youth has an undetected, potentially life-threatening heart condition. 80% of the time there are no warning signs before sudden cardiac arrest according to Who We Play For.

Logan Johannesen was one of three students found to have a potentially life-threatening heart condition at our event last year. He had an ablation to take care of the problem after he was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome.

“I’m very grateful that they figured it out for anything bad happened,” Logan Johannesen said.
