“His little smile will brighten up the room,” the baby’s grandmother told First Coast News.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Saturday marked a day of mourning for the family that lost their 8-month-old baby boy Pablo Kye Golden after he was placed on the road at a Jacksonville intersection and killed by a vehicle last week.

Evelyn, the grandmother of Pablo, told First Coast News the loss of her grandson only brought her family closer together, and she appreciates all the support their family has received from the community.

“We appreciate the prayers, and all the help from the different foundations we appreciate it,” said Evelyn.

Evelyn and her family stood side by side in unity wearing yellow shirts to remember 8-month-old Pablo.

Evelyn said while Pablo is no longer with us, his life will forever be remembered.

“His little smile will brighten up the room,” she said. “We want him to know that we will never forget him and we will carry his memory with us and we want him to know that he was loved by all of us.”

Evelyn hopes people in the Jacksonville community learn from this tragedy.

On the morning of Jan. 25, police say the baby’s father, identified as 20-year-old Justin Golden, was driving near the intersection of McDuff and Lenox avenues when he got into an altercation with a woman in the passenger seat. 8-month-old Pablo was also in the vehicle at the time.

Police say the car came to a stop at the intersection, Golden opened the car door and placed the child on the ground. As Golden drove away, the vehicle ran the baby over.

First responders took Pablo to Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A witness, who was driving directly behind Golden at the time of the incident, followed Golden while on the phone with 911, an arrest report states.

The 911 operator notified nearby police officers of Golden’s location and officers conducted a traffic stop near Stockton Street on his vehicle. He was ultimately detained.

During an interview with police, Golden said he got into a verbal fight with the baby’s mother, who said she wanted to get out of the vehicle.

“Mr. Golden stated he did not want to be responsible for the child, nor accused of anything with the child,” an arrest report states.

The baby’s mother was also interviewed by police. She told investigators she got into an argument with Golden over baby wipes and money, according to an arrest report. The woman said she did not move the child from his car seat and began walking away from the vehicle in an effort to stop the altercation.

She told investigators she heard screaming and turned around and noticed the child in the road and Golden’s vehicle gone.

Golden was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, failing to render aid and aggravated manslaughter of a child, according to police. He is being held in Duval County Jail on no bond.
