The Miami Dade Sheriff’s Office says K-9 “Roxi” died in a crash where “a subject” struck the vehicle she was in, causing it to slam into a concrete wall.
MIAMI — A K-9 part of the Miami Dade Sheriff’s Office has died after suffering injuries during a police pursuit that happened at the end of January, the sheriff’s office announced in a post on its Facebook page Monday.
According to Miami Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, K-9 “Roxi” passed away on Saturday.
The sheriff said the K9 Vehicle carrying Roxi was struck during a pursuit, causing the vehicle to crash into a concrete wall.
Cordero-Stutz called Roxi a “true hero” and “loyal companion,” who brought a sense of security and strength to the sheriff’s office. The post further states that she worked alongside her handler, Organized Crimes Bureau Deputy Sheriff Jared Hahn, for nearly eight years, since April 2017.
“Together, she conducted countless narcotic deployments for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and many other agencies across three counties, resulting in arrests, drug and money seizures, and numerous arrests of some of the worst of the worst violent offenders,” the post states.
A memorial service for Roxi will be held “in the near future,” according to the sheriff’s office, as soon as arrangements are completed.
