NIGEL Farage could topple Sir Keir Starmer unless he seriously improves the economy, shaken Labour MPs admitted today.

Politicians privately told The Sun that without desperately needed “growth” their time in power may be limited to the next election.

It comes after a bombshell poll by YouGov found that for the first time Reform is Britain’s most popular party.

Mr Farage commands support of 25 per cent of the public, ahead of Labour on 24 per cent and the Tories on 21 per cent.

Responding to the survey today, the Reform chief said: “The consensus we’ve had for years doesn’t work.

“Ordinary folk get poorer, our borders are open, excess migration changes our communities.

“People want strong, patriotic leadership that actually cares about ordinary people.”

Last night the poll was shared widely on Labour WhatsApp groups, with MPs scurrying to try and figure out how their seat could be impacted.

Backbenchers told The Sun they don’t think its game over for the party yet – but Sir Keir must turn around the tide or face the prospect of Mr Farage sitting in his place.

One MP said: “I think it’s more about delivering economically and in public service improvements for left-behind towns.

“If people’s lives get better by the next General Election they will give us another term of office.”

They added: “People are impressed when you tell them on the doorstep about government deporting 16,500 illegal immigrants.”

Another MP said: “I’m a little bit concerned.

“But it’s all the Nigel show at the moment and 7 months into power, after all the big decisions, I’ll take where we are.

“If polls are still like this in 4 years I’ll be more worried.”

A senior politician in the party added that if Sir Keir can “grow the economy” Reform won’t be a threat.

Dover’s Labour MP Mike Tapp told The Sun he expects poll to “shift dramatically during a parliamentary term”.

Mr Tapp claimed that Reform “don’t even know who they are”.
He said: “Too many politicians wrap themselves in our great flag but are driven by self-interest.

“As a former Soldier I know that only one Party will stand up for British Values and that’s Labour.

“We have taken tough decisions to create an environment to benefit hard working British people, and that’s what we will continue to see going forward.”
