RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — The Rantoul Police Department is mourning the passing of their former chief, Paul Farber.

On Jan. 31, Farber, 76, passed away at Bickford of Cedar Falls. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, his four children and his eleven grandchildren.

Farber led the Rantoul Police Department from 2005 to 2015. He dedicated himself to public service throughout his career, and his leadership left a mark on the community, according to Rantoul Police.

Before serving as the Police Chief in Rantoul for ten years, Farber served as chief in multiple other communities including, Humboldt, Iowa, Estherville, Iowa and Village of Peotone, in Illinois.

The Rantoul Police Department said Farber had a passion for service and was dedicated to the safety of the communities he served in. And, according to his obituary, Farber was also a was a passionate supporter of professional wrestling.

He helped promote both amateur and professional events in the Midwest, including several charitable wrestling matches benefiting local communities. And was even known to enter the ring at times, wrestling as “The Chief.” Farber was also a D.A.R.E. instructor, a little league baseball coach and created mentoring programs for teens.

The Rantoul Police Department extended their condolences to the Farber’s family, friends and coworkers.
