COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (NEXSTAR) — A suspect in a 2023 homicide in Miramar, Florida was captured on Tuesday evening, Feb. 4, in Colorado Springs, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The U.S. Marshals Service Colorado Violent Offender Task Force (COVOTF), along with the Fountain Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado Springs Police Department, made the arrest after 28-year-old De Sean Phang was identified as a suspect and an arrest warrant for second degree murder was issued on Jan. 17.

The homicide reportedly happened in early 2023 in Miramar and left one man dead.

The Marshals Service said recently developed information indicated that Phang had left Florida and was possibly hiding in Colorado. That information was passed on to the COVOTF on Feb. 3, which then learned Phang was moving between Colorado Springs and the south Denver metro to include the Englewood and Highlands Ranch areas.

The Marshals Service said Phang was traveling in a rental car which was located by the COVOTF near C-470 and South Quebec Street in Highlands Ranch, before moving back south to Colorado Springs. COVOTF Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers from the Fountain Police Department, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and Colorado Department of Corrections then contacted both the Colorado Springs Police Department and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

The Marshals Service said Phang sped away when CSPD officers approached to make an arrest and was followed to the parking lot of a Big R store on Fontaine Boulevard in Security-Widefield. Phang got out of the car and tried to run away but was quickly captured.
